Very Old and Rusty Axe Restoration | Tools Revival HD
First episode of tool restoration, I needed a workshop axe so I decided to choose a battle forged one from a flea market. Got this beauty for 8$, it is a Goldenberg Hatchet from 1920 or earlier. I could not find the exact model so if you know more please let me know in the comments. It was roughly cleaned but still rusty and beat up. I slightly changed the axe head, lowering the center of mass and reshaped some worn areas. I decided to keep most of the pitting on the cheek as it is part of this tools history. Also I did not want to damage the makers mark, a "single eye" on the goldenberg logo signifies "Superior Quality". The steel is in very good shape under the rust and still hardened so no one messed with that. I made an Oak handle for it, twice, and a Wenge wedge. Shaping the handle for some wood splitting with a Scroll knob, and the belly I left rather fat as I tend to choke on the handle when working on details. I had a lot of fun doing this restoration, reviving old tools is very fulfilling, I wondered about the person that made this axe, and where or did he even think it would survive for so long. I wondered about the people that used it and what or where it has been, and hopefully I will use it for a long time and it will keep wondering long after me. I hope you enjoyed the video, let me know what you think in the comments! Tauf Tools
