Dodge Caravan *ignition key not turning* WHY HD

2002 dodge caravan with anti theft chip in key. The tumblers were sticking so we removed 4 tumblers (2 on each side) Note the location and tumbler number,as you will need later when you rebuild*****this is a temporary fix****** had to order a new set of tumblers and springs to rebuild the ignition lock cylinder. Why we went this route... did not want to cut and Recode a new key !!
