First Attempt Making an Elder (sambucus nigra) Bow. Part. A Disaster Waiting to Happen? Part One. I have heard that elder (sambucus nigra) is a good bow wood. Last summer I harvested a stem of elder 75" long and 2 inches in diameter. In the cold of a January day, I begin the process - or an attempt I should say - of making the elder stem in to a bow. Will I be successful - or is it a disaster waiting to happen? Part two to follow.
