Forgive me if my typing is poor, as I trained shoulders yesterday with 110% intensity and am so sore I can barely lift my arms up to the keyboard. I would ask my mutant (drug free, but using Power-Rep Range-Shock and B-Built supplements) 44.5 lb. Bichon Frise ("normal" size is about 12 lbs.) to type this up, but he is busy doing push ups supersetted with dips! LOL! This week our video focus is on the abs. We take a look at proper performance of the Lying Straight Leg Raise, which can also be done on an incline, hanging and supported by the elbows. This exercise is excellent for targeting (not isolating) the lower portion of the abdominal wall, which is usually underdeveloped as compared to the upper ab "blocks." While watching how this movement is correctly performed also understand that you need to intensely focus on "pulling with the abdominal muscles" rather than with the hip flexors. Try to think more about curling the hips upward than simply raising the legs. At the top make sure to tighten the abs, and then lower slowly to the start position while keeping the entire waistline contracted. Once you become proficient at this exercise you can add resistance via ankle weight or a light DB held between the feet. Have an awesome week of training! -Coach
